Virginia Carol Whalen

Virginia Carol Whalen (78), died at Hospice Compassionate Care Center on Sunday, Aug. 9. She was the widow of Regis E. Whalen.

She was the daughter of James Edward and Hazel Anderson. She was retired from the library at EKU and was a member of the Union City Baptist Church.

She leaves behind two daughters, Tameria Dawn Ritchison (Gary) of Richmond and Tracy LeAnderia Holton (Stan) also of Richmond. She had four step-daughters: Aileen Perkins, Kathy Arbogast, Pam Smith, and Cynthia Ellington. She is survived by her brother, James Kenneth Anderson, extended family members and many close friends. Her grandchildren include Brandon Ritchison, Brianna Ritchison, DeLaynie Holton and Jesse Perkins.

Carol loved life and would want kindness and charity to be sown like the seeds in her garden.

A private, graveside burial service was held on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at 1 p.m. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations to Richmond’s Hospice Compassionate Care Center or The Alzheimer’s Association.
