Mary Catherine Pierce

Mary Catherine Thomas Pierce, 81, wife of Ronald E. Pierce, died on November 11 at Kenwood Health and Rehabilitation Center following a short illness.

Born on October 28, 1943 in Pee Wee Valley, KY, she grew up in Middletown, KY and graduated from EKU, where she met her husband, in Fall 1964. She taught mathematics at Bellevue, KY in the Spring of 1965, as well as mathematics and physics at Madison Central High School from Fall 1965 to Fall 1974. She also taught part time in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at EKU from 1983 to 2005. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church, Berea, KY, for 39 years, having faithfully served as deacon, elder, and co-leader of the Disciples Sunday School Class. 

Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ronald Pierce.  She leaves behind two children:  Donna Pierce of Starkville, MS and William Pierce of Richmond, KY.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Morton and Stella Thomas, two brothers, James and Paul, and a sister, Esther Modesty.
