W. A. (Al) Morris

W.A. (Al) Morris, age 94, died on Monday, August 29, 2022 at his Clarksville, TN residence. Al and Doris, his wife of 69 years, moved from Richmond, KY to Clarksville in 2018 to be near their two daughters. Mr. Morris’s parents were Jesse and Eva Morris of Ashland City.

A native of Cheatham County, Tennessee, Mr. Morris served in the U.S. Navy as Seaman First Class-Quartermaster from 1945 to 1946. He received an undergraduate degree at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas; received his Masters Degree from Long Beach State College in Long Beach, CA; and EdD from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Morris spent his professional career in Education; first as a High School teacher in Rosebud, Arkansas, next as an elementary school teacher followed by serving as the principal at two Elementary Schools in Southern California. Dr. Morris served as the chairman of the Elementary Education department at Eastern Kentucky University from 1969 until 1990. Additionally, he served as an Elder for the Richmond Church of Christ for ten years.

He and Doris had five children, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Gibson Morris, and one son, Jeffrey Wayne Morris. Also by his sister, Evelyn Buffington and two brothers, Roy Morris and Charles Elihu Morris. He is survived by two sons; Scott Morris (Lisa) of Indianapolis, IN; Bruce Morris of Richmond, KY; daughter-in-law Sonia Morris of Richmond, KY; daughter Emily McGinn (Mike) of Southside, TN and daughter Lou Ann Weakley (Phillip) of Cunningham, TN.
