Sue Harris Long
Sue Ann Harris Long, 87, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 12, 2022 at Baptist Health- Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Clyde B. Long.
Sue was born on May 20, 1935 in Union City, and was the daughter of Haden and Iva Dozier Harris, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a faithful, longtime member of Union City Christian Church where she had previously served as pianist for a number of years. Sue worked for the Extension Service after marriage. After taking time off to raise her family, she became an administrative assistant at EKU in the College of Education. Sue was known throughout the community for her strong work ethic, and she was greatly loved by everyone whose lives she touched. She especially liked working outside in her yard and garden, and was still doing her own mowing. She enjoyed growing apples and strawberries, and loved canning and preserving her harvests to share with family and friends. Her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family, and she was very proud of her grandsons’ accomplishments.
Survivors include: one son, Wayne S. Long (Teresa), of Richmond; one daughter, Karen Stewart (Bill), of Thurman, OH; two grandchildren, Zachary Stewart, of Columbus, OH, and Tyler Stewart (Ali), of Urbana, IL; several nieces and nephews; and her canine companion, Molly.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, James William Harris, Harold Harris, and Jean Fortney.
