Dorothy Carter
Dr. Dorothy Carter was born November 11, 1940 and died September 14, 2021 in Lexington, Ky. Born in Cloverport, Ky., the daughter of John S. Carter and Irene Alsop Carter. Carter died Sept. 14, 2021 and is survived by siblings Mary Jean Carter, Patricia I. Carter, John S. Carter, Jr. (Peggy), Emilie Carter Cope (Bob), and numerous nieces and nephews and their families, as well as a close group of good friends.
She received her doctorate at the University of Kentucky in French Studies and taught French at Eastern Kentucky University. She had college textbooks published and was loved and respected by her students and fellow professors in a long and illustrious career spanning 51 years.
Dorothy had a mind that held historical names, dates, and places as well as movie and music trivia…a one woman "Google." She was passionate about politics and had a great sense of humor.
She traveled extensively, especially to her beloved Paris, and studied abroad at Oxford and the Sorbonne.
She was involved with her church, Christ the King, serving as lector.
A Funeral Mass will be at Christ the King Cathedral, October 9 at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow in the church hall.
