Dr. Ronald Lee Marionneaux

Ronald Lee Marionneaux passed away Friday, June 19, at home in Georgetown, Ky. Ron was born in Monroe, La. on Jan. 4, 1935, to the late Ralph and Mary Marionneaux. He was a sergeant in the United States Army. Ron attended Northeast Louisiana State College (NLSC), Louisiana State University and Indiana University before becoming a professor at NLSC and Chairman of the Geography and Planning Department at Eastern Kentucky University. Ron held positions as planning director for Monroe, La. and a planning consultant for Richmond, Ky. and Madison County, Ky., which allowed him to follow his passion for planning and development. An avid sports enthusiast, Ron coached youth baseball, kept statistics for the NLSC basketball team and was a color commentator for EKU football. He was also a Boy Scout leader in both Louisiana and Kentucky.
Ron was a member of Union City Christian Church where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Stephens Marionneaux and his brother Ralph H. Marionneaux. Survivors include their children, Rhonda Bellairs (Bart), Lt. Col. Steve Marionneaux (Rosemary), Joni Stephens (Pat) and Daren Marionneaux (Dana); grandchildren, Laura Forster (Derek), Daniel Stephens (Mindy), Jon Allen (Lauren), Ben Stephens (Leah), Stephen Marionneaux II (Taylor), Alan Michael Marionneaux(Ellyn), Katie Sorrels (Chase), Rachel Marionneaux, Hannah Marionneaux and Joseph Stephens; 16 great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Ginger Petrus; and a host of other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., on Tuesday, June 23, at the Union City Christian Church, 2473 Union City Road. Funeral Services for family and close friends will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 24, at the Union City Christian Church, with visitation starting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the church. A livestream of the funeral will be available on our website beginning at 11 a.m., on Wednesday. Social distancing guidelines are requested for both the visitation and funeral service.
Pallbearers are grandsons: Daniel Stephens, Jon Allen, Ben Stephens, Stephen Marionneaux II, Alan Michael Marionneaux and Joseph Stephens. Honorary pallbearers are Pat Stephens, Derek Forster and Bart Bellairs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union City Christian Church (2473 Union City Road, Richmond, KY 40475) or Bluegrass Hospice Care (1317 US Hwy 62E, Cynthiana, KY 41031). The Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home, West Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
