Dr. Robert W. Witt

Dr. Robert W. Witt, 83, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 at his home.

Dr. Witt was born on March 26, 1937, in Allen County, Ky., and was the son of Aubrey Witt and Loyce Cook Jackson. He was a professor of English literature at the University of Mississippi and at Eastern Kentucky University, where he taught for 35 years. Dr. Witt was an accomplished writer, having published numerous books, articles, stories and plays, and he worked for 32 summers with the outdoor drama “Unto These Hills” in Cherokee, N.C. He was also a pianist.

Survivors include: one sister, Jennifer Sue Hardy (Michael), of Scottsville, Ky.; one niece, Angie Hood Swygart; and one nephew, John D. Mayhew, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Teresa Mayhew, and one nephew, Michael Alan Mayhew.

A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec, 18, 2020 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Rd., Richmond, KY 40475. Visitation was from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
