Dr. Bill Janeway, 76, husband of Helen Clendaniel Janeway, died on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021 in Richmond, Ky., at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center.

Born on Aug. 3, 1944, in Middlesboro, Ky., he was the son of the late Charles and Mayo Jackson Janeway. He worked at NASA for many years and was part of the team that was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for their work on the Apollo 13 Space Mission. After earning his Ph.D., his family moved to Richmond where he taught math and computer science at Eastern Kentucky University for 29 years. He retired in 2010 and was named Professor Emeritus in recognition of his service. Dr. Janeway was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a very proud grandfather to his five grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Clendaniel Janeway; three daughters, Phyllis Smith (Doug) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cynthia Plummer (Chris) of Richmond, Va. and Tammy Meek (Mark) of Richmond; five grandchildren, Kelsey Anglin (Dylan), Allison Smith, Paige Smith, Sarah Meek and Aaron Smith; two sisters, Jean Fox and Haley Hulley.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at the First Baptist Church with Bill Wright and Travis Farris officiating the services. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-noon, Saturday at First Baptist Church.

The Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home is handling the services for the family.
