Ben Pennington
September 23, 1954 - April 16, 2021
On Friday April 16, 2021, Ben Pennington, loving husband, brother, and family man passed away at the age of 66 surrounded by family.
Ben was born on September 23, 1954, in Leslie County, Ky., but most recently resided in Richmond. He was a member of Richmond Church of Christ and worked for Eastern Kentucky University for many years, retiring in 2014 as head custodian.
Ben was a kind, genuine and compassionate man whose greatest joy came from his family. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Rose, at Myrtle Beach, family dinners with competitive games of Phase10, and never said no to whatever crazy new tasks his brothers found for him. Ben was probably happiest when he was spending his day fishing whether he caught the biggest fish, no fish or was sitting on the back of the boat tying on a new hook. Ben never hesitated to open his home to a family member who needed a loving place to stay. Anyone who met Ben was touched by his generosity and heart of gold. Now, the birds might chirp a little softer and the sun might shine a little less bright in the morning since Ben will not be there to greet them on his usual early morning walks.
Ben was preceded in death by his father, Golden, his mother, Bertha, his brother, John, step daughter Ellen Mae McKenna, and nephew Ronald Green. He is survived by his wife, Rose, siblings NL (Linda), Marie Kaiser, Rachel (Richard) Ledbetter, Katie Green, Polly Jane Schneider, Joseph (Doris), and Okey, Judy (Sister-in-law), step-children Eddie Alexander and Leanna (Shawn) Richardson, grandchildren, Shawn, Tanya, Kimberly, and Brooklyn Richardson and Chance and Brooke McKenna, nieces and nephews, Olivia, Richard, Tony, Shane Beal, David, Dianne Creamer, Bryan Lahey, Garrett Ledbetter, Melissa Ledbetter, Michael Ledbetter, Pamela Lee, Jennifer Schneider, Robin Foreman, and Danny Schneider, and other family members who loved and adored him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Hall and Bro. Mike Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. A link to view the service via livestream will be available on the funeral home website the day of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Richmond Church of Christ, 1500 Lancaster Road, Richmond, KY 40475.
